The objective of the “One UN” is to improve the impact, coherence, efficiency, effectiveness and positioning of the UN system in Kenya to enable it better assist the country to meet the SDGs and Vision 2030. This will be achieved through One Programme, One Budgetary Framework, One Office, One Leader and Communicating as One.

Gender equality is one of the key UN Development Group programming principles which guides the work of the United Nations. Within the UN system, UN Women was established in 2010 to accelerate the achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

In Kenya, the UNDAF articulates several results related to gender equality and women’s rights and empowerment. The approach is two‐pronged and is achieved through the following:

Gender mainstreaming in all four UNDAF Strategic Result Areas and in the work of individual agencies
Development of flagship programmes on specific gender‐related issues which require a multi‐agency, multi‐faceted response
